Off Campus Access

A guide to accessing library resources from off-campus

Off Campus Access to CSU Library Resources

  • Faculty and students login to OpenAthens using CSU BlackBoard credentials
    • This single login streamlines your research as it will provide off-campus access to databases AND your Library OneSearch account (no separate login for requesting ILL or PASCAL Delivers)

For other CSU members:

  • Campus staff - must use an Open Athens personal account
  • Other CSU affiliation - may be given an Open Athens personal account upon request

How It Works

1) For example, see the article below in CSU's OneSearch

  • Click on the link located under Full Text Availability

2) You should then see an option to log in via Open Athens.

  • Click on the first option to log in with your CSU Blackboard username and password.

* if you have already created an Open Athens account, you may use the 2nd option

3) When prompted, log in with your CSU Blackboard username and password:

4) After you've logged in, look for an option to view or download the full-text of your article or resource

Accessing online resources directly from content provider websites

  • You can also access the CSU Library's subscribed content directly from content provider websites.

This can be done through Google, Google Scholar, or an OpenAthens enabled site. Providers vary, but look for the OpenAthens prompt (may be labeled Institutional Access, Access Through Your Institution, etc.) and then beginning typing Charleston Southern University.

You should then see an option to 'Select Your Institution' or 'Find Your Organization'.

  • Once you select Charleston Southern University, you will be prompted to enter your CSU Blackboard credentials or your Open Athens account login credentials.

The examples below are from Taylor & Francis Online and Elsevier.
