The L. Mendel Rivers Library will have modified services for the Spring 2021 semester.
Please take a look at the changes listed on this page. If your question is not answered here, please contact usand we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
The library building will only be open to the CSU community, so be prepared to display your CSU ID and LiveSafe app checkmark to library staff to enter the library.
Masks must be worn at all times in the library.
The library will operate on reduced hours this semester to allow for thorough cleaning and disinfecting. Please see our hours schedule for updates.
To maintain a healthy environment, food will not be allowed in the library. Only water will be allowed in the library. We will have to turn you away if you bring in food or other drink.
Out of concern for transmitting the virus through surface contact, the library will not provide pens, paper clips, USB keys, scissors, or other high touch items. (The staplers by the printers will still be available, so it is essential for you to practice thorough hand washing after using staplers.)
Cleaning materials and hand sanitizer are available throughout the library. Students are expected to disinfect their seating area when finished, as in classrooms.
Books, circulation, and safety
To minimize virus transmission on surfaces, when books are returned to library, they will be quarantined for 3 days before being reshelved.
Therefore, there will be no course reserves. Course reserves will be electronically posted to Blackboard.
Headphones and calculators will not be circulated this semester.
Reference books will be available, so you will still be able to use dictionaries, style guides, commentaries, and other reference materials. Because they are frequently used, reference books will not be quarantined. Be mindful that it is essential for you to practice thorough hand washing after using books.
CSU is committed to a safe environment where we limit the number of people and germs in a room.
We have rearranged the study tables and reduced seating to accommodate 6 foot social distancing.
The student group study rooms will not be available as there is inadequate space for distancing.
There will be 7 study rooms on the 2nd floor reserved for commuter students who need a quiet space to virtually attend an online synchronous class. These will be single-student use only.
Services to students
We have even more options to connect with you for reference and research help. We upgraded to a robust chat system, and will add personalized “zoom rooms” for you to talk to a reference librarian. You can schedule a research appointment or contact us for more information.
