Accessing EBSCO eBooks

EBSCO eBooks

READ ONLINE

  • Available for any computer or device with an active Internet connection and web browser though older versions of Safari may need a PDF Browser plug-in
  • See tutorial on using the eBook Viewer

DOWNLOAD FOR OFFLINE USE

  • Active Internet connection and web browser is required to download the ebook but not to read it later
  • Install either Adobe Digital Editions or the Bluefire Reader app before downloading the ebook
  • Ebooks are borrowed for two weeks. Download again if needed longer.
  • ALL COMPUTERS, LAPTOPS, AND MOBILE DEVICES
    • Require a MyEBSCOhost account (free)
    • If you are off campus, you will need to login as usual to the Discover Search or the database, then login to MyEBSCOhost when prompted. The two logins are not the same.
    • To get a MyEBSCOhost account, connect to any EBSCOhost database, click Sign In at the top right, then click Create a new Account, and follow the instructions
  • COMPUTERS AND LAPTOPS
    • Need Adobe Digital Editions (free)
      • Get Adobe Digital Editions free from adobe.com
      • If you have trouble installing ADE, see this Help note from Adobe
    • An Adobe ID is not needed to use Adobe Digital Editions on a computer but is required to transfer ebooks from the computer to another device or to register a mobile app
      1. Go to adobe.com
      2. click Sign In in the upper right
      3. click Get an Adobe ID and follow the instructions to register
      4. If you already have an Adobe ID and need help, see the Adobe Account Help page

  • APPLE AND ANDROID MOBILE DEVICES
    • Need Bluefire Reader app (free) download
    • Need an Adobe ID (free) to register the Bluefire Reader app (see above)

  • KINDLES
    1. Save to PDF on a computer (see instructions)
    2. Connect to the computer and transfer to the Kindle,
      OR use Amazon's Send to Kindle option
  • OTHER EREADERS, including Nook and Sony Reader
    1. Download to Adobe Digital Editions on a computer or laptop (see above)
    2. Connect to the computer and transfer to the device (free Adobe ID Required, see above)
    3. See a list of portable devices compatible with Adobe Digital Editions

DOWNLOAD OR EMAIL IN PDF FORMAT FOR OFFLINE USE

  • Active Internet connection and web browser is required to download the PDF but not to read it later
  • Available for most computers, laptops, or mobile devices able to read PDFs
  • No special ereader app required; use the PDF reader of your choice, such as Adobe Reader, iBooks, etc.
  • Can download or email up to 60 pages of an EBSCO eBook as a PDF file. The number of pages may vary depending on individual publisher-specified limits.
  • On Apple devices, after downloading PDF, click Open in iBooks or another PDF app
  • Can download to a computer, connect your ereader to the computer, and then copy the PDFs to the ereader
  • For Kindle, save to PDF on a computer, then transfer to the device or use Amazon's Send to Kindle option
  • Can keep PDFs indefinitely
